BIG PEANUT HUBBARD – 1917 Hubbard could have been the Peanut Butter capitol of Texas? I wonder what happened? A Peanut Mass Meeting Day was held in Hubbard in December of 1917. Big promises of a Peanut Empire here in Hubbard. Today, Gaines County is the top peanut-producing county in the United States. There are also pockets of peanut growers in the northeast Panhandle, near Vernon, south of San Antonio and in the Comanche County area. Did Hubbard just miss out or is the climate and soil unfriendly to the peanut? I am a bit sorry Hubbard isn’t the Peanut Capitol of Texas!
