Tris Speaker — born right here in Hubbard, Texas — was the very first person ever inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1951?
The Texas Sports Hall of Fame recognizes athletes, coaches, and administrators who have brought “lasting fame and honor to Texas sports.” It was established in 1951 by the Texas Sports Writers Association, and once it inducted Tris Speaker, Texas became the first U.S. state to have its very own sports hall of fame.

So the next time you’re in Waco, take a short drive and say hello to a little piece of Hubbard history, proudly on display.
