“Just looking at a cotton patch made his back ache.” That’s what Jim Ray Hammer used to say. Born in 1930 near New Hope, he grew up working hard on the family farm before serving his country and eventually returning home to build something lasting.

In 1971, Jim and his wife Edie returned to Texas and began running what would become a true Hubbard staple — Hammer Service. For over 50 years, their family has kept this business going strong at 100 NW 4th Street. But Hammer Service is more than a service station — it’s a place where people are cared for.

Though Jim passed in 2021, his legacy lives on through his family and the business he built — one rooted in hard work, integrity, and serving others.
